Januarius Gagliano

  •

  • This violin repair was for Derry Dean, Associate Professor of Music, Tulsa University.  The repairs included a new bass bar and soundpost Patch.  the first concert performed on the repaired instrument was in Mexico City, Mexico as a solo instrument with the Mexico city orchestra.  Derry was very pleased with the power and response from her Gagliano.  A new bass bar often can give an old violin a new fresh power that may have been missing for decades.

1876 Ludwig Bausch Cello

  • 1876 Ludwig Bausch Cello
  • This cello was in a car accident with the owner, both having neck damage.    The cello's neck was cracked at the base of the scroll (smaller picture).   The owner came to me and within several weeks from a raw block of flamed maple I carved and fit a new neck graft.   The owner was very pleased and thought the instrument played better with the new neck.
  • this cello was sold to the owner from the tulsa violin shop where I had repaired the instrument when it was placed on consignment.   The cello was graduated and the bass bar replaced.

1821 Johann Stauffer Bass - Neck Graft & Neck Block

  • This 1821 Johann Stauffer bass was on consignment at the Tulsa Violin Shop when a painting fell off the wall and broke the neck from the body.   I spent one month carving a new neck graft and neck block for the ancient bass.   It required pulling the 180 year old hand written label from the broken neck block and replacing it on the new block.    The label has a water mark from 1820 in the paper of the maker's label.  All finished it was later returned to its owners.   They were very pleased with the repairs.

1925 Armando Altavilla Violin  - Restoration

  • Armando Altavilla is the maker regarded as the greatest craftsman of the modern Neapolitan school.
  • this violin that had so badly been damaged by unskilled repairman.   But once finished the owner was very pleased to have invested the money to bring this master made instrument back to life.    The repairs included "through" soundpost patch, button graft, edge doubling, new bass bar with internal cleats, many repair cleats and a new upper and lower block.   Once finished the instrument proved to be an outstanding concert violin that is heard by hundreds of Tulsans each week.
